Which Engine Comes In the 2020 Nissan Frontier?
The 2020 Nissan Frontier gets powered by an all-new 3.8-liter V6 engine that delivers a best-in-class 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Featuring 93 percent new or redesigned parts, this powertrain replaces the previous 2.5-liter V4 and the 4.0-liter V6 choices. Some key design features of this new engine include a direct injection gasoline system, cylinder heads with integrated exhaust manifolds, a variable displacement oil pump, variable timing control and a variable tumble control valve.
Also new for 2020 is a 9-speed automatic transmission, designed to maximize fuel efficiency and provide enhanced acceleration feel. Similar to the new 9-speed automatic introduced on the 2020 TITAN, this transmission offers a crisp and direct shift response throughout the entire gear range. The new transmission is also quieter than the previous 5-speed automatic due to a centrifugal pendulum absorber.
Along with the power improvement, efficiency has also increased with the incorporation of the new engine. The 2020 Frontier earns an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined on 4×2 models, and 17, 23 and 19 mpg respectively on 4×4 models.
